Smoke coming from the grill of Willer’s Barbeque started to engulf the dining area. We disregarded our purpose of waiting for the rain to stop before leaving the small food place since we already smell like the skewers on the grill. Since we just had dinner, we searched for a place where we can spend for some chit-chats and desserts.
We found ourselves inside a nearby two-storey establishment located at JY Prestigio, Lahug, Cebu City that offers pastries and more. Country Basket has different kinds of cake from cheesecakes, cupcakes to cakes in a jar, and pastry goodies such as macaroons, brownies, and chocolate bars.
The charming, bright and lighthearted interiors of the place enthralled us that we enjoyed staying more than 2 hours. Aside from cakes, they also offer sandwiches and pasta such as the Spanish sardine pasta and chicken sandwich.
We tried their Kahlua Walnut Pie (Php 115), Crème Brulee cupcake (Php 70) and Mango Love (Php 120). Kahlua Walnut Pie is the most recommended item in their chiller. It has a chewy thick and rich layer of chocolate with walnuts with a mild taste of Kahlua, a coffee-flavored rum-based liquor originated from Mexico. On the other hand, the Mango Love is not that sweet as well as the Crème Brulee cupcake.

Prices of the cakes are a little bit pricey compared to other dessert places in Cebu as per a workmate, but I think the quality and taste of the cakes speak for it. A great way to end a grueling Sunday afternoon spent surviving the rope courses of Mountain View Nature’s Park.
