QUEZON CITY | Short But Sweet Stay at Microtel UP Technohub

Exploring new places is one of the things I really enjoy on a trip. Sometimes, I manage to take a break from discovering new stuff, for the sole purpose of relaxation. This happened during my visit to Microtel UP Technohub, the newest addition to the Microtel by Wyndham family and the 13th site all over the country.

The hotel is just 6 months old but prominently made its name as a destination in UP Ayala Technohub. In fact, information from the staff, the hotel is the first one along Commonwealth Avenue that’s why they also tagged it as the “First Commonwealth Hotel”.

Microtel by Wyndham is known to be a no-frills and back-to-basic hotel accommodation provider. This means that they have affordable rates without sacrificing and limiting the comforts and services they provide to their guests. This new property is six-story high and has a total of 120 spacious guest rooms divided into One-Bed Suite and Two-Queen-Bed rooms.

The 13th Microtel by Wyndham site in the Philippines.

One of the distinct features in Microtel UP Technohub I noticed is the use of light pastel colors on the lobby because most Microtel properties I’ve been to have this bright and warm colors used to accentuate the waiting lounge and arrival area. Checking-in was again a breeze.

The bellboy insisted to carry my bag when he led us to our room on the fifth floor. Another thing that puzzles me every time I stay in a Microtel site is the color theme of the room interiors. My guess went to the signature orange thing but I was surprised to find out that it was dark blue/green, just like in Microtel Mall of Asia.

Two-Queen-Bed rooms.

Room we got is on the garden side, overlooking the expansive lawn on the nearby UP Asian Institute of Tourism, the lush hotel garden, and some trees nearby. On the other side is a great view of the city. I really appreciate the way how they incorporate nature on their new site. This will assure you a quiet, tranquil, and relaxing stay within one of the busiest cities of the metro.

Security and privacy are seriously considered by the management. Taxi and private vehicles are being checked thoroughly every time they get inside the compound. Aside from that, your keycard will be used to operate the elevator which means that you can only access the floor where your room is, and the common floors; lobby and the roof deck.

Pool at blue hour.

Speaking of roof deck, the sixth-floor has an outdoor pool and also gives a panoramic view of Quezon City. Amazing sunsets are usual episode in the deck. I was excited to know that they also allow private pool usage for parties and functions. The pool is only 4-feet deep though because the accommodation is family-oriented and probably to ensure safety for the guests, especially the kids.

Our modern-design and spacious room have the essentials we needed for a chic and comfortable weekend stay. Beds are still chiropractor-approved mattresses that always provide an undisturbed sleep, toilet and bath is equipped with hot and cold shower, has fresh towels, and toiletries. The air-conditioned room also has a dresser, window seat, in-room safe, a flat-screen TV with cable, and an IDD and NDD phone. Plus, this is the site offers free WiFi up to the rooms, with the connectivity I consider good.

Oblation Function Hall that can accommodate up to 150 persons.
Pastel colored fixtures made Millie’s Restaurant’s dining area cute and fab.

For function needs, they have numerous function halls, the Oblation being the largest, that can accommodate up to 150 persons. Complimentary buffet breakfast is being catered by their in-house Millie’s Restaurant; with a wider dining area compared to their MOA branch. In addition to the main dining hall of the restaurant is the al-fresco dining at the hotel’s patio with the immense garden on sight. The garden literally welcomes you to a relaxing and invigorating stay once you enter the premises.

Simple yet elegant landscape of the garden.

Cities in Metro Manila were clustered into north and south. I stayed for almost 3 years in the metropolitan area but it was my first time to go on that part of Quezon City. People always say that if you’re from the south, you have a greater possibility of getting lost in the north, and vice versa. On my visit to Microtel UP Technohub, one thing is for sure, if I will be dropped off somewhere in Quezon City, I now have a reference point.
