Staying in the city and drowned in the concrete jungle, one needs a breather. What’s great about urban planning nowadays is the inclusion of nature parks to de-stress people from the demanding city life. Let’s be honest — these parks and attractions are far different from undisturbed and tucked-away oases. But still, these places are more than enough to get the dose of fresh air we need.
Every city wants to be part of a “best list” — the best city for foodies, best city for extreme adventures, best city for bike trails, etc. The city itself is home to towering skyscrapers where big corporations and a variety of Oklahoma City hotels dwell. Oklahoma City isn’t aiming for any distinction but is still blessed with many nature parks and attractions. For that, here are four nature parks you can drop by during your visit.
Martin Park Nature Center
This hidden gem promotes a peaceful and serene environment for visitors. Open from 7:30 in the morning ’til 6 in the evening, Martin Park Nature Center is a perfect place for short hikes. The friendly and shaded trails offer views of the meadow, forest, and even a creek. If you’re lucky, fireflies light the area in the evening. For kids, there’s a playground and a nature center.
Lake Hefner
One of the most visited nature parks in Oklahoma City is Lake Hefner for its perfect and well-maintained trails. The trail surrounding the lake is nice for some running, biking, and dog walking. An area of the park that’s near the lake is Stars and Stripes Park with a large playground, picnic areas, cooking grills, basketball courts, and benches. In terms of water activities, you can try fishing, boating, and even windsurfing.
Myriad Botanical Gardens
Tucked in the middle of downtown Oklahoma is Myriad Botanical Gardens — aptly named for the myriad of facilities in such a tiny area. A great option for recreation, the garden has a tropical conservatory, pond, indoor events center, amphitheater, playgrounds, and seasonal recreation areas like a skating rink and splash pad. Architecture in the park is impressive, especially the cylindrical building. Paying the $8 admission fee will provide you a guide map of the garden.
Hafer Park
Depending on your age and the time of day, an admission fee is also collected to get access to this park’s facilities and trail. Don’t worry, because this will be your ticket for a fun day at Hafer Park. The park is for all ages, with playgrounds, wall climbing, and a lot more. Running trails are also available and a duck pond will surely require you to stop in the middle of your day. Hafer Park is perfect for visits any time of year.
Plunging yourself into the facilities and amenities of your hotel on your Oklahoma City trip is fine. However, if you need a place that’s serene and relaxing that’s removed from the comforts of your hotel room, these nature parks in Oklahoma City are definitely perfect for such cravings.
