Boracay was never on my list of priorities to visit because I’m aware that it is jam-packed whole year-round, and I hate hitting the beach with a huge crowd. So I didn’t plan to visit Boracay. In some instances, as a traveler, you tend to break some of your rules just to satisfy your travel bug.
To make it short, I made my way to Boracay recently. I thoroughly planned the trip and for me to avoid the crowd, I stayed away from White Beach, where the hippest happenings occur.
Results? I found myself away from the Boracay crowd by checking-in at Microtel Boracay, tucked at the northern part of Diniwid Beach, adjacent to Station 1. With its location, my goal to relax and unwind in the most famous island was made possible. Problem solved!
Marlon, a jolly hotel staff, fetched me from Caticlan Airport and led me to the hotel worry-free; he did all the queuing for the tickets and other fees at the jetty port. Upon arrival, the security opened the door of the shuttle service and offered to help with my backpack. Since I only had a light and small bag, I thanked him and declined. He led me to the main entrance of the hotel instead.
A staff welcomed me with his full smile giving me a lei of shells; accompany me to the lobby where a glass of refreshing welcome drink and cold towel were waiting for me. I was rejuvenated from the tiring trip I had from Cebu. The staff at the front desk got my details, let me signed the form, said some reminders, handed me my room keycard and breakfast stubs. These simple gestures attracted all the positive vibes all throughout my stay in the hotel.
Microtel Boracay is just one of the more than a dozen Microtel hotels scattered around the country. The site has a total of 51 rooms; from queen double, queen double with beach view, and queen suite, all designed with a warm and homey mood. All room accommodations include a complimentary breakfast for 2. Location of the hotel didn’t bother me at all as I can inform the front desk for utilizing the shuttle service or have a 15-minute walk by the beach going to White Beach.
Aside from the huge queen-sized beds with chiropractor-approved mattresses that I really love, Microtel Boracay rooms are also equipped with cable television, individually air-conditioning unit, IDD and NDD capable phone, toilet and shower with hot and cold water, and radio clock for double rooms, and coffee/tea making facility, refrigerator, microwave oven, kitchen counter, sofa sleeper and bath tub, as prime amenities for the suite rooms.
Guests can also enjoy free WiFi access in the lobby and lounge areas, free flowing coffee, tea, and purified water, usage of the swimming pool, children’s play area, 24-hr vending machine, and can avail the hourly shuttles service to D’ Mall in Station 2. They also have a shelf of books that offers varieties of literature to read.
The hotel is also home to Mama’s Fish House. The native inspired restaurant is a cozy place to dine with the beach from a distant serving freshly cooked cuisines from Bruschetta (Php 270), Lemon Pepper Mahi-Mahi (Php 420), Grilled Yellow Fin Tuna Steak (Php 390), Bagnet Crispy Pork Belly (Php 350), Angel Hair Prawn Al Olio (Php 420), Grilled Seafoods and a lot more. During happy hour, you can lounge by the chairs near the restaurant, sipping on your beer or cocktails while waiting for sun down.
I was able to realize my goal on my first visit to Boracay, to just chill and enjoy the beauty of the surroundings. The idea of getting away from the island crowd was perfectly handled by staying at Microtel Boracay. The hotel-resort is indeed a great location to consider when visiting the famous island in the country.
