Blog-op-o-lis (noun), is a conference put on for bloggers, by bloggers. A day-long event covering the four pillars of blogging: Content, Marketing, Monetization, and Advocacy, classes suitable for bloggers both big and small. (blogopolis.ph)
The event was held at Makati Shangri-La Rizal Ballroom C last November 18, spearheaded by Nuffnang Philippines with the goal to engage and educate Filipino bloggers by furthering their blogging skill set and knowledge and have the opportunity to meet and hear from some of the biggest and most influential names in the Philippine blogosphere hosted by actor-blogger-Survivor Cast Away Chuckie Dreyfus.
Prominent figures in the Philippine blogging industry graced the event including Abe Olandres, the man behind yugatech.com who tackled the past, present, and future of Philippine blogosphere; Manuel Quezon III, Undersecretary of the Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Office (PCDSPO) who cited the role of social media in e-governance and Maria Ressa, a Filipino journalist and CEO of rappler.com who talked about the then and now of media landscape, and reasons why online media will always trump the traditional media.
After the buffet lunch, Liam Capati, Media Director of Starcom MediaVest Group Philippines talked about the different factors sponsors are looking in a particular blog for them to advertise followed by again Abe Olandres on how to take your blog to the next level and seeing it as a business opportunity.
A panel discussion was also held with some of the top bloggers in the country such as (from left to right as seen in the picture below): Abe Olandres, Tippy and Anthony Go (of googlygooeys.com), Mic Sy Lim (of fashionpulis.com), Noemi Dado (of aboutmyrecovery.com), Ivan Henares (ivanhenares.com), Carlo Ople (of thenewmedia.com), Christine Dychiao (of manilafshionblogger.com) and David Guison (davidguison.com) who tried to answer some questions from the audience with regards to blogging.
The breakout sessions were divided into two, depending on the ticket you had purchased. We chose the Session A with the topics: Idea Sourcing and Content Creation presented by the couple Tippy and Anthony Go, Blog Branding and Promotion by Christine Dychiao, where Divine Lee served as a panelist together with David Guison and last topic was Blog Photography 101 by Allan Baredo of lantaw.com.
A networking-fellowship night culminated the event with the announcement of the winners of the iPad mini, iPad3, and iPhone5 which everybody wanted to get. I didn’t win the raffle for the Apple products, but I did win a prize receiving a DermClinic card. My luck was not enough for the Apple products. We also found and mingled with new friends/bloggers during the party.
At the end, we enjoyed and had fun attending the event not only for the overflowing food, the cool prizes given away, nor the loot bags from the sponsors, but for meeting fellow bloggers, listening to pro-bloggers and especially the ideas and tips we had learned on how to make and bring our blogs to the next and higher level. Thank you very much NuffnangPH for establishing this kind of event. See you next year!
