Silom is centrally located in Bangkok and infamous because of Patpong Street. But the area boasts its crowded alleys, souvenir shops, and night markets. Local food courts are widely available on every block and the place is much accessible to attractions of the city. To cater travelers wanted to spend late night parties, hostels dominate the area and one of them is Lub D Bangkok Silom.
The nearest BTS Stations from Lub D Bangkok Silom are about 10 to 15-minute walk. But you can simply flag a tuk-tuk driver or book a car on Grab, ride-hailing platform in Southeast Asia. The hostel is 2.5-kilometer away from Chinatown, 2 kilometers from Hua Lamphong Station, and 7 kilometers from Khao San Road. In getting to these spots, you can take regular buses with the help of the friendly staff.
A large elephant butt welcomed me at the lobby of the hostel. The massive animal, facing the wall, has its butt wide open for guests to stick their face out for a photo. Stone’s throw away is the bar counter having a bright yellow semicircle table top. Inside are two fridges containing soda, water, and bottles of Chang beer. This will be your place for happy hours from 6 to 8 PM because beers are priced from THB50 to 80.
Lobby and Reception
There are tons of happenings on the lobby and you’ll get distracted to attend these stuff before checking-in. Similar to Lub D Phuket Patong, there’s a STA Travel desk for some tour needs. If you want to make your do-it-yourself tour around Bangkok, the nearby boards list some of the must-visit temples, night markets, parks, shopping centers, and food markets in the city. One day is not enough to explore these spots so you will find yourself extending few more nights in Lub D Bangkok Silom.
Two hang-out areas in the lobby; the couch and the long table usually used for some meals and drinks from the hostel’s Yellow Donut Bar and Café. On the rear part are few computers that guests can use in travel planning, booking plane or bus tickets, or just simply for social media. Everyone is allowed to use the devices but please be reminded that only for limited minutes per day. This is to allow other backpackers to use the facilities.
Check-in time! After your short roam around the lobby, of course, don’t forget to make yourself legal on your stay in Lub D Bangkok Silom. The warm accommodation from the staff and crew will welcome you even if you are still meters away from the counter. If your arrival is still away from the standard check-in time, you can ask them to secure your backpacks in their luggage room. Once you check-in, get your key-card and don’t forget to put your bed tag on your bed to mark it as occupied.
Lub D Bangkok Silom Rooms
Thailand is a backpacker haven and there will be no shortage of rooms for travelers at Lub D Bangkok Silom. The property has a total of four types: double room, twin room, female dorm, and mixed dorm. Double room enjoys queen-sized bedroom and an en-suite bathroom and also equipped with LED television, alarm clock, and iPod dock. The twin, on the other hand, has big and comfortable bunk beds.
Shared accommodation is common in cities like Bangkok and considering a place just for sleeping makes it a good option. Plus it’s cheaper compared to private rooms. Lub D Bangkok Silom has mixed and female dorms and each room has 4 bunks or 8 beds in total. Each bed is provided with an individual reading light, universal electronic socket, and locker. Free towels are also provided upon check-in. Ladies dorm is located on the uppermost floor of the building and this is a highly-secured area as gents are not allowed to enter the section.
Facilities, Activities, and Freebies
Separate shared bathrooms for ladies and gents are available every floor. Each provides 4-5 cubicles and around 10 shower rooms. Lub D Bangkok Silom also provides laundry facilities. On the second floor is an entertainment room for movie showing and hostel fun events. Apart from the events the hostel offers, the staff also organize events outside of the property.
Last time I was there, few posters of the ARTBOX Festival are posted on some spots inviting interested participants. If you’re already tired of the usual Bangkok happenings, you might consider to join these kinds of activities. Don’t be afraid to ask the friendly Lub D Bangkok Silom crew for recent events available.
Same with Lub D Phuket Patong, Lub D Bangkok Silom gives free popcorns around 5 or 6 in the evening. You don’t need to do anything, just show up at the common area on those time and you’ll get a bucket of goodies. It will be fun to meet fellow travelers while munching on freshly-popped popcorn.
If you’re looking for an awesome vibe or just interested in making new friends while on your trip, Lub D Bangkok Silom will surely be your friend. Shopping centers, Bangkok attractions, night markets, and local food courts will be at your fingertips on your stay at the backpacker hostel.
