Water is one of the classical elements in Greek philosophy often associated with the qualities of intuition and emotion in esoteric tradition. Approximately 72% of the planet’s surface is covered by water that is mainly divided into several principal oceans. Oceans are full of life. And to display this magnificent view underwater, the Manila Ocean Park has its attraction Oceanarium.
Oceanarium is one of the attractions at the Manila Ocean Park. Be fascinated by the wonders of the sea and a breath-taking marine life exhibit. You can discover over 5,000 varieties of marine creatures from around 300 species, all indigenous to the Philippines and the Southeast Asia. You can also walk through Asia’s largest underwater viewing tunnel, stretching 25 meters long and curved at 220 degrees, and witness how different reef fishes interact with each other.
The Oceanarium is divided into 7 sections:
AGOS (Flow). This section showcases a rainforest with 8 tanks of freshwater fishes.
BAHURA (Reef). This part showcases artificial corals in 48 tanks.
GOLDEN STRIPED SOAPFISH (Grammistes sexlineatus). Can grow at a max length of 30cm (1ft).
LAOT (Fishing Ground). Features big fish and Eagle-spotted rays in a long tank.
BUHAY NA KARAGATAN (Living Ocean). It is the main attraction of the oceanarium which is 25-metre long walkway tunnel with 220-degree curved acrylic walls similarly seen in Ocean Park Hong Kong, Underwater World in Singapore, Siam Ocean World in Bangkok, Thailand and Aquaria KLCC in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The difference between MOP’s is a 220-degree curved tunnel as compared to the standard 180-degree curved tunnels seen in other Asian countries.
ANG KALALIMAN (The Deep). Showcases marine animals found in the deepest parts of the Philippine’s water.
PAGI (Sting Ray). Varieties of rays fly over while you’re under this unique Overhang Tank.
PATING (Shark). – This area features several species of shark.
