Burgos Museum in Vigan City is the birthplace of Jose Apolonio Burgos, one of the famous GOMBURZA priests, who was falsely charged, together with Mariano Gomez and Jacinto Zamora and were executed in Bagumbayan on February 17, 1872. The house was built in 1788 with a floor area of 422 square meters. The house that was turned into a museum has been under the administration of National Museum since 1989 after it was turned over by the Ayalas.
The museum houses some memorabilia of the Burgoses together with the story of beginnings of Ilocos Sur such as the collection of weaponry, musical instruments, burial custom, sets of ceramics and jars and tools being used in farming, fishing, and weaving.
One room of the ground floor is dedicated to local history having a model of Pechili Trading Junk, the oldest type of Chinese Sea Junks used in fishing and trading; a collection of photos of women achievers of the province, 4 beautiful dioramas and a replica of “garrotte.” On the other side of the wall found the Ilocos Hall of Fame. The second floor of the house preserves the existence of the Burgos Family.
Museum Hours is from 8:30AM to 11:30AM and 1:30PM to 4:30PM from Tuesdays thru Sundays, closed on Mondays and Holidays. Entrance fee is 20 pesos.
