The Full Moon Party
This list wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the all-night beach party that’s famous around the world. The Full Moon Party takes place in Haad Rin, on the island of Ko Pha Ngan. There are loads of copy-cat events elsewhere, but head to where it started for the best night ever.

Looking for a non-stop party atmosphere? Head to one of Thailand’s larger islands, Phuket. With an array of nightclubs, bars, and strip clubs to attend along Patong Beach, you won’t be disappointed. Give Soi Sea Dragon and Seduction Beach Club & Discotheque come highly recommended by Travel Budco.
The Songkran Water Festival
Every year in April, to celebrate the Thai New Year, the streets of Thailand transform into a giant water fight. As Secret Traveller’s Thailand guide says, people take to the streets armed with buckets and water guns, so be prepared to get very wet. Best leave your phone at your hotel then.
Pattaya
Pattaya is the once-infamous red-light capital of Thailand. Indeed, it’s apparently still got “an air of a human zoo” and it’s full of late-night shenanigans. Visit at your own peril and be prepared to come home with some stories you might have to selectively share.
Monkey Buffet Festival
Where else in the world would put on a festival for monkeys? Well, one of the most famous places in Thailand to see monkeys is among the ruins of the historical city of Lopburi. And it is here local businessmen put on a grand Monkey Buffet Festival on the last Sunday in November every year.
Of course, it’s all part of their efforts to attract tourists, so expect some stalls selling fruit for you to buy and feed the monkeys.
Koh Chang
If you’ve over-partied, head to Koh Chang. According to Gap Year Escape, the party scene here is more about getting together with your mates and having a few drinks. It’s the place to go to chill out, without feeling like you’ve had a night off.
