The driver of the van from Britania insisted that I should join them going back to Casa de Babano and already negotiating for my Hinatuan and Bislig tour to be done by his son. Along the way, I searched online where Casa de Babano is and found out that it is located in Bislig City. Since I wanted to stick with my Surigao Del Sur itinerary, to stay in Hinatuan, I asked him to drop me off in the municipality which is just along the way.
He was irritated and even asked me to pay Php200 for the fare, which is just around Php100 via commute. I irrationally agreed with him because I was fooled by the way he convinced me and Casa de Babano seems to be in Hinatuan by the way he explained. So I was dropped off in Hinatuan.
Just in front of the market, I called Marky’s Hostel, which was actually my original option on that night in Surigao Del Sur. Luckily, they have a lot of vacant beds and after 5 minutes, a tricycle fetched me at a gasoline station.
Combination of the white picket fence and blue painted walls welcomed me in Marky’s Hostel. Tatay Toto met me at the entrance, asked me to log, and immediately led me to my room. Rooms are very basic as expected but good enough for a rest after the tiring activities I had for the day. My room has a bunk bed even though I was alone. It is also a fan room by the way and has some wall outlets you can use for recharging your gadgets.
Common bathroom and toilet are clean and well-maintained and water supply is not a problem. If ever you forgot to bring your toiletries, they’re selling shampoo, toothpaste, and bath soaps at reasonable prices. Aside from that, they have instant coffee and offering hot water for free.
They have other rooms for solo, twin, and groups. Nanay Lumen also shared that they recently opened another site, within walking distance, which can accommodate bigger groups. The owners are very accommodating that they chat with their guests to get to know them. For your tours, Enchanted River and Tinuy-An Falls, Nanay Lumen could also assist you in finding a trusted habal-habal driver to take you to these destinations.
Marky’s Hostel was named after their son currently working abroad. Marky is also a traveler and you can verify that by a frame on a wall in the lounge area, with a collage of photos taken from places he visited. I stayed at the hostel for two nights (Php250 per night) before heading back to Butuan City.
