AKLAN | Boracay Beachfront: Zuzuni Boutique Hotel

My first visit to Boracay made me experience a beachfront accommodation but in Diniwid Beach, which is still around a kilometer away from the famous White Beach. Location is fine because it’s away from the crowd and parties. But eventually, you’ll get tired transferring from White to Diniwid Beach. So if you’re after the food and party scenes of the island, the pick an accommodation near White Beach.

When I revisited Boracay for the third time, together with Doi and Bren, we were able to snatch a beachfront hotel along Station 1 for our stay, Zuzuni Boutique Hotel. The hotel is known to be simple yet chic accommodation in Boracay. And apart from that, during peak season, it’s really hard to get a reservation.

The front-desk is snugged in a small area of La Cozina Boracay, their in-house restaurant, before the never-ending staircase going to their rooms. We were housed on the second floor and given a room facing the imposing sea surrounding the island. We spent the first few minutes consuming our welcome drinks while enjoying the cold breeze from our balcony.

My worries went to the impression that it might get noisy during the evening with the happenings in the area. Souvenir shops, buffet dinners, fire-dances, and parties are everywhere. However, when the glass door and curtain did their work, you will be disconnected from the turmoils of White Beach.

As I mentioned, our room has its own balcony with sitting area. Though the view was not that clear due to some coconut trees, still it offers a laid-back vibe away from the crowds of Boracay. This room is only one of the four types of room available at the only 14-room boutique hotel: standard, beachfront with balcony, premier beachfront, and loft.

Gray is frequently regarded as an impassive and moody color and always associated with dull, dirty, and dingy. None of these negative words were present the first time we got inside our room. The minimalist and gray-themed room exploded its modern feel and embraced us after we settled in. The bed welcomed us with a lot of numerous pillows, soft linens, and cuddly duvets.

A small fridge, with complimentary bottled water and some beverages (at affordable rates), safe box, and some clothes hanger, can be found in one of the cabinets near the balcony’s door. Both sides of the headboard are wooden tables illuminated by two lamps.

Room is a bit small but the way the items were laid out, there is enough space for three guests to comfortably move around. A sofa sleeper is an additional perk for a more fun getaway with friends. Other in-room facilities include the cable-enabled television and air-conditioning unit.

Shower room is one of the things that will surprise you on your stay at Zuzuni Boutique Hotel. The showerhead is transparent and will enable you to see the water running clear. As far as I know, it was installed to address low pressure on their shower rooms as the technology improves the flow of water through the spouts. The hundreds of micropores add a soothing feeling during showers.

For Boracay food fix, you don’t need to go out of the hotel premises anymore as La Cozina will definitely satisfy your hunger. It’s a Latin American inspired restaurant and serves pizza, sandwiches, tacos, to paella, baby back ribs, and desserts. Don’t ever miss to try their paella as they cook it in a different way, adding a certain crunch on the famous rice meal. Don Churro also provides chewy churros served with chocolate dips best eaten while walking along the beach.

Room rates include free breakfast that can be availed at La Cozina. Breakfast for in-house guests has a different menu and it includes Spanish (two eggs on a bed of seared veggies on Ciabatta bread), Filipino (choice of beef or chicken tapa, pork tocino, bangus, with two eggs served with rice), pancakes/waffles (with fresh fruits and syrup), house of bread, omelette (with rice or bread), and breakfast sandwich (tomato, cheese, chicken or beef, with salad). Drink options are coffee, juice, or tea. We picked chicken tapa, omelet, and waffles for breakfast, and they really pleased us and satisfied our tummies. The chicken was really juicy with its flavorful marinade.

As for the service, they exceeded our expectations as staff shows up at our door just a minute after we asked for something. They are very responsive to minor issues we encountered and helpful enough to assist us with some inquiries in exploring Boracay.

Hey RJ, I also enjoyed my stay at Zuzuni. I also like the fact that although the boutique hotel is located at Station 1 (where the famed powdery white shoreline is), the conveniences (cheaper bars and restos) of Station 2 is just a few minutes walk away.

    Hello RJ!

    Thanks for this post.

Do you need to go inside the resto to get to the staircase for the rooms?
Regarding the “neverending staircase”, do you think a senior citizen, (who recently had a knee op), will have difficulty climbing up into the beachfront room?

Hope to hear from you soon.

    Thanks.
